REGULAR CRISIS: A Cantata on the Global Economy

Regular Crisis is a multimedia film by video and performance artist Marina Landia. It involves video projections and a full symphony orchestra and was first premiered in Leipzig in collaboration with Kristjan Järvi and the MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra.

The film is based on personal interviews with global executives and policy-makers, including José Angel Gurría, Secretary General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development; Steve Forbes, President and CEO of FORBES Media; and Manfred Bischoff, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Daimler.

Regular Crisis is a video cantata where protagonists are presented as soloists and are accompanied by a powerful orchestral score. Music provides an urgency to their statements, enhancing, or sometimes jarring with, their speech and generates a rhythmic and emotional narrative unusual for this type of content. It generates artistic reflection on the “state of mind” of the most influential players within the global economy, exploring their values, philosophies and ways of thinking.
As many of established concepts are challenged by current development this exploration provides an unorthodox perspective on the state of today’s economy and the direction that it may take tomorrow.

The soundtrack is a compilation of works by Louis Andriessen, Bryce Dessner and Jonny Greenwood, as well as conductor Kristan Järvi.
